The Powerglide (2-speed) shifter was able to be used without modification for the TH350 or TH400 (3-speeds). However, when switching to a 4-speed overdrive automatic this is no longer true. Yes, the same stand-alone electronic trans controller will be necessary, but this transmission is essentially a TH400 with a built-in overdrive. Unlike the 700-R4, the 4L80E is a true three-speed with a 2.48:1 first gear ratio.
