Tfvars, just like the variables of any other programming language, are named memory space whose location is known and whose value may be read, written, and re-used. However, in this case, it’s not necessary to directly declare the tfvars in the program source. You can define a separate file, every module, and declare the tfvars that are required.Terraform TFVARs Files. To set lots of variables, it is more convenient to specify their values in a variable definitions file (with a filename ending in either .tfvars or .tfvars.json). Terraform automatically loads a number of variable definitions files if they are present: Files named exactly terraform.tfvars or terraform.tfvars.json.
