Let me offer you a different perspective to the ones you have been given. Solely as a ranged DPS, Arueshalae is slightly better. However, Lann is a Zen Archer, which means, if you level it to 3, his main stat for attacking will be WIS. WIS is also the main stat for, among others, clerics.Arueshalae is the best companion in game and it's not even close. If we approach it from purely a pragmatic view, she has the best stat pool by far. Easily reaches 50 perception. You can also level up her arcane knowledge if you don't have Ember.
