Sep 18, 2008 · im doing my 600 mile service on my 07s myself and im going to use a new crush washer on the drain plug. i thought it would just be a flat washer but when i opened the bag the thing looks like a spark plug washer. does anyone know which side, curved or flat, goes toward the oil pan. dont want to butcher the pan threads. thanks FAQs about Crush Washers on AR-15s; 1. If you look at a new washer closely or scratch with your fingernail you will see the thick felt layer that gets crushed onto the pan. When you remove the drain plug the felt in the middle of the washer is uncrushed / conforms to the drain opening. Flipped around backwards, it might work, but you are not taking full advantage of the contact surfaces of the washer.
